Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance
Trip Report by MOONEYES Temporary Ambassador Dale

Hello everyone! Mooneyes’s Dale here! Recently I had the honor of participating in one of the world‘s most prestigious car events, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance! Held in California on the central coast of Monterey, it has now become an even bigger event as the entire area surrounding the concourse is known as “car week”. There are driving events with supercars, road racing at Laguna Seca, and many many car auctions all throughout the region, as well as new car debuts from various manufacturers. But I was more involved with bringing up a famous American race car to display, known as the Old yeller 2.
Owned by a longtime friend of Shige and Chico. Ernest Nagamatsu has owned this car for many many years and this original patina’d car has an incredibly rich, racing history, with many of its drivers going on to be very famous American racers, the most recognizable being Carol, Shelby, and Dan Gurney. Originally built by Max Balchowsky and his wife Ina, with junkyard parts, the car was a huge crowd favorite.
This event brings some of the world‘s most valuable cars. Anything from vintage raced Ferraris to Dusenberg’s and many concept cars that most of us have never even heard of, but are extremely rare. A real mix of cool stuff! The show itself was on a Sunday, But these owners take their cars and go along on low speed controlled drives down the California coast. Rain, along with a small forest fire shortened the journey this year, but these folks and their multimillion dollar cars did it anyways getting soaked from the rain as most vehicles do not have roofs and are open.

My job for the week was to deliver the Old Yeller and prepare it for the big day. So I was able to see and do many behind-the-scenes actions, including carefully driving it down onto the beautiful golf course that overlooks the ocean. It made me very nervous!
Another highlight was assisting the Ferrari crew with transporting and setting up their display! Who would’ve ever thought there would be a time that Mooneyes and Ferrari would be together in one place!
It was a great week to be a part of an incredible motor car experience, to see so much history and horsepower in one place! I highly recommend it to any gearhead! Check out a few of the many many pictures and captions from the event! And looking forward to seeing everyone in Yokohama later this year. Please stop and say hello to me! Mooneyes ambassador Dale.

Staging area

Unload of Old Yeller 2.
Most beat up car at event, yet easily one of most popular, and crowd favorite!

Ernie Nagamatsu and his wife, Elaine. They are very energetic and enthusiastic, always have many people wanting to meet and greet!
All throughout the day, he would allow children to sit in his prized racecar! He always would say, “ Who knows, he or she may be next famous driver some day”!!

Wet Thursday morning, but everyone is happy and ready to get wet!

I was allowed into auction, on a guest pass. But they did not issue me a bidders card! That’s okay! No way I could afford these cars anyhow!
But , was stopped by people in here who knew Mooneyes, so that was pretty cool!!!

I was told guy in orange shirt is some rock star celebrity! Asked me to take a picture with him! I never say no!! Nice guy!!

At end of long day, all smiles and start to load up and move off golf course!

Over $100 million dollars! I was very careful wear I placed my hands!!! I was honored that crew trusted me to assist, as many hands were needed to make it all work!!
